Both the system and individual colleges make determinations about how to accept and apply prior learning credit. This page represents approved equivalencies across all 58 colleges in North Carolina. Each school maintains their own list of equivalencies, but at a minimum, must accept these credits.

<a id="exam"></a>Any applicable AP exam offered by the College Board may be considered for Prior Learning credit. 
<ul>
	<li>A minimum score of 3 can earn 3-4 semester hours for each exam.  </li>
	<li>A score of 4 or 5 can earn up to 12 semester hours for each exam.  </li>
</ul>
Each college determines the score needed and the course equivalencies. Exams must have been taken within the last five years. Official transcripts from CollegeBoard will be required.

Any applicable AS- or A-level exam offered by the Cambridge Assessment International may be considered for Prior Learning credit. 
<ul>
	<li>A score of E or higher can earn between 3 and 8 semester hours for each exam.  </li>
</ul>
Each college determines the score needed and the course equivalencies. Exams must have been taken within the last five years. Official transcripts from Cambridge will be required.

Any applicable CLEP exam offered by the College Board may be considered for Prior Learning credit. 
<ul>
	<li>A minimum score of 50 is required to earn college credit, and between 3 and 12 semester credits may be awarded for each exam.  </li>
</ul>
Each college determines the score needed and the course equivalencies. Exams must have been taken within the last five years. Official transcripts from CollegeBoard will be required.

Any applicable standard level (SL) or higher level (HL) exam offered by the IB Programme may be considered for Prior Learning credit. 
<ul>
	<li>A minimum score of 4 is required to earn college credit, and between 3 and 8 semester credits may be awarded for each exam. </li>
</ul>
Each college determines the score needed and the course equivalencies. Exams must have been taken within the last five years. Official transcripts from IB will be required.

Any applicable DSST exam offered by the DANTES (The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) may be considered for Prior Learning. 
<ul>
	<li>A minimum score of 400 is required to earn college credit, and 3 semester hours can be awarded for each exam. </li>
</ul>
